ABOUT
Chou Wen-Chung’s “All In The Spring Wind” was recorded by the Louisville Orchestra as part of their First Edition Records (LOU-614) label in 1961. The title of the “is taken from a poem, written in exile, by Li Yu (937-978), the last emperor of the Southern Tang Dynasty:
Last night, amid broken dreams,
I was again in the Imperial City,
As in the days of old.
The flowers, the moon,
All in the spring wind.“1
“All In The Spring Wind” was recorded on Wednesday, February 1, 19612 and released that year. Robert Whitney conducts the Louisville orchestra on the recording. The LP also includes Alan Hovhaness’ “Magnificat” For Four Solo Voices, Chorus And Orchestra, Opus 157.3 “All in The Spring Wind” is the last piece on the B-side of the LP and is the second work by Chou Wen-chung recorded by the Louisville Orchestra’s First Edition Records. It followed the commissioning and recording of Chou Wen-Chung’s “And the Fallen Petals”4 (LOU-561) in 1955, and precedes “Soliloquy of a Bhiksuni” (LOU-641) which was recorded in 1963.5
