New Lens: Saw Peep
Join us for the final New Lens concert of 2023, featuring Louisville intercultural ensemble Saw Peep on Sunday, November 12! The New Lens series explores diverse and intriguing sounds and ideas in new music, art and society. Performances are free and open to the public. Seating opens at 6:30 p.m. at 21c. The program begins at 7 p.m. Reservations are not required, but early arrival is recommended. There is limited reserved seating for LPM members at 502-814-6565 or membership@lpm.org. Silpayamanant’s ‘Homrong Isaan’ to be premiered by the MSO
Saw Peep founder and artistic director will have two works for orchestra premiered May 14, 2023. The Manchester Symphony Orchestra will perform ‘Homrong Isaan’ (for full orchestra) and ‘From Dream Till Dusk’ (for chamber orchestra) as part of their “Arts Popourri” program which will also feature a work by the orchestra’s conductor, Debra Lynn, Kandinsky Suite, which will be performed in collaboration with Mikautadze Dance Theatre. Jon will be in residency in Manchester for the week leading up to the performance to give presentations, workshops, and performances. ‘Homrong Isaan‘ is a blend of Thai, Isaan, and Western classical music styles and is in three parts. Juilliard MAP Commissioning Project for Diverse Etude Book
Saw Peep artistic director, Jon Silpayamanant, announces that Juilliard has commissioned him to compose a book of cello etudes, building on their efforts to embrace and build a more representative world of classical music. The commissioning project is for their Music Advancement Program (MAP). Jon will be incorporating a variety of World String styles in the etudes, including a number techniques found in Southeast Asian string traditions. Cello Teaching Repertoire Consortium to represent diverse musical styles and cultural backgrounds
We are thrilled that Saw Peep founder and artistic director, Jon Silpayamanant, was selected to be one of the Cello Teaching Repertoire Consortium composers which has as its mission “To expand cello student repertoire with the commission of new pedagogical concert works and etudes representing diverse musical styles and cultural backgrounds.” “CTRC 2023 TIMELINE, TARGET STUDENT LEVEL This year we are commissioning Bianca d’Avila Do Prado and Jon Silpayamanant to each write one 5-7 minute concert etude for cello at an intermediate level.
